Since I work in education there is always at least a 3 month downtime for some systems in our district. This can cause issues when they haven’t been turned on in quite a while and thus not contacted our servers. We had an issue today to where we came across several computers that were not turned on all summer. They had very, very old updates that were failing.
I noticed that the client version on these machines was dated. They had not received hotfix kb/2910552. This resolved the issue of them not updating properly. (Or even grabbing the right updates)
The real issue was that after I applied the hotfix to these machines on many of them I was getting the error :
Detected faulty configuration. Repair will be started in 5 minutes. in the ccmexec.log file. The error would keep repeating every so often. I found this MS forum with a quick Google search.
I fired up a command prompt with escalated privileges and ran
. It failed the first time because the ccmexec service was using the WMI store. I stopped the service with
sc stop ccmexec
. Then ran
again. It completed successfully. I restarted the ccmexec service and waited. The client started up successfully.
NOTE* I tried this fix on another computer and it did not have the same results. On that computer I had to do a complete uninstall and install of the client. I had to then reapply the hotfix.
